1. What territory does the destination include and what is specific about it?
Țara Dornelor is located in the southwestern part of Suceava county, the historical region of Bucovina. The tourist area overlaps the relief unit Depresiunea Dornelor and includes the municipality of Vatra Dornei and the nine neighboring municipalities: Ciocănești, Cârlibaba, Iacobeni, Dorna Arini, Șaru Dornei, Panaci, Dorna Candrenilor, Coșna and Poiana Stampei. Located in the valleys where the rapids of the Bistriţa and Dornea rivers flow, Tara Dornelor is guarded by some of the most interesting Carpathian peaks: the massive ridges of the Suhard and Giumalău Mountains to the north, the crenellated ridge of the Bistriţa Mountains to the east, and from the south the ridges of the Mt. Calimani. Carbonated mineral waters represent an important resource for Ţara Dornelor and at the same time one of the brands specific to the area. These are capitalized both for curative purposes, within the treatment base of the Vatra Dornei spa resort, and for economic purposes, through bottling at Poiana Negrii, Dorna Candrelinor and Panaci. The relief of the area is arranged in steps with altitudes that rise from 800-900 m (in the heart of the depression) to 1800-2100 m, facilitating the development of mountain tourism to the most attractive points usually located on the neighboring mountain ridges. The relatively gentle peaks, covered by forests, pastures and hayfields, as well as the agro-pastoral landscape, give a special picturesqueness and a special landscape harmony, which represents the basic resource for the tourist development of the area. Dornelor Country is also an area with an interesting historical past. The more than 100 years under the Austro-Hungarian Empire brought with it an ethnic mosaic and a cultural diversification that can be felt to this day in the traditions, customs, port, folklore and local architecture.
