Ecology and Tourism – a Civic Initiative to Make Romania Green Again

Working together for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe

The project addresses the issue of non-degradable waste that is dumped in natural areas and does not end up in a proper collection or recycling system. In this context, Romania is losing its image as a tourism (especially ecotourism) destination, with economic and social repercussions at national and local level.

Within this project, three ecotourism destinations in Romania have been chosen: Ţara Dornelor, Țara Hațegului – Retezat and Zărnești – Piatra Craiului. Here, our attempt is to change the local people’s behaviour regarding the dumping of waste in the natural environment and to find solutions to this issue together with local public administrations. The project also develops a national awareness-raising campaign that will end with an advocacy action directed to the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Environment, and the Parliament. This aims the implementation of a set of measures that will lead to finding permanent solutions to and creating the premises for the launch of the national plan to combat plastic pollution.
